Obesity Apparently Can Trigger Kidney Disease

At this year's World Kidney Day celebration, health experts highlight the high cases of kidney disease caused by obesity or being overweight.

Based on health data in 2014, there are at least 600 million adults globally who are exposed to obesity problems. This means, quite a lot of people are at risk of developing chronic kidney disease.

Health expert dr. Dharmeizar Sp.PD-KGH mentions if the condition of obesity can  affect kidney function significantly. Overweight body can  trigger kidneys to work excessively for years so this will make the kidneys more easily to be damaged.

Not only that, excess weight also indirectly exacerbate the problem of high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. In fact, these two health problems are included in the risk factors causing the emergence of kidney disease.

Those who are obese have a greater body mass, so the kidneys are forced to work much harder to filter out and remove various dirty substances and toxic in the body. Because of this excessive pressure, then kidney damage can occured.

The problem is, most people with obesity with kidney disease apparently have a very complicated kidney damage that can reach the cell level.

According to him, this damage is caused by high inflammation, oxidative stress, increased insulin production, and also abnormal lipid metabolism in the kidney.

With a very fat body, urine acidity also tends to decrease, but vice versa, uric acid, sodium, urine oxalate, and the secretion of phosphate tends to rise. This contributes to make the kidney's performance worse.

Seeing how big the effect of weight on kidney health, then it reminds us to better maintaining our weight in order to prevent the emergence of various kidney diseases that can be very tortious and dangerous.
